Papillary Carcinorma, 2016
Digital collage printed on paper, red thread
29.7 cm x 42 cm
A suite of nine collages map the period of recovery following the removal of my thyroid gland to cancer. I was unable to speak for the first 6 weeks following surgery and as a result took a lot of selfies as a form of documenting my life at that time. The recurring shape in this series is the cross-sectional form of the thyroid gland which I found intriguing for its resemblance to a head. The use of red thread alludes to the body while the process of collaging, even though digitally was perhaps a way of regaining control and readjusting to life after this significant event.
